New Features As Of 3am Last Night

New Features As Of 3am Last Night Our latest release happened last night! This release introduces some features that Im really jazzed about. Im not including everything here, since some of it was specifically for my coach partners, or verbiage, or just inconsequential to your user experience. But man I was excited about this release! Heres why! Add a Log Entry and/or Action Item to multiple records at one time (premium feature). Remember the last release, where we announced you could add tags to multiple records? Now you can do the same with Log Entries and Action Items. In the example above, I can put one Log Entry (and make an Action Item, if I wanted) for each of the three contacts that are checked. Not only can you do it from the List Panel, but and this is very, very cool, I can do it based on my Get Contact List! This is HUGE. It means that I can get my contacts who are all bloggers, and as Im getting ready to send them a newsletter, put a log entry that says Sent March newsletter talking about x, y, and z. With one quick click awesome! Also, on a call a couple of months ago Deb Dib (JibberJobber Premier Partner and branding contest sponsor) asked about getting a pop-up notification when action items where due. Kind of like how ACT! notifies you of your tasks, or calendar items, or action items. Well, thats now a possibility! We put new RSS feeds on your Action Items, and you can download a utility that will popup each time your Action Items are coming due (premium feature). Very, very cool. Ill have a separate blog post on how you do that later. In order to facilitate this, we had to put time on each Action Item. Yep, we should have done it 18 months ago but its finally here. You can now set a TIME for your Action Items. On the Company List Panel you can now see your contacts in a column. When you do a search on the Job Search page, we kind of missed the idea of allowing you to scroll to multiple pages now you can (oops!). I confess that deciding what is free and what is premium ($9.95/month) is kind of hard sometimes. Over a year ago I made a decision to restrict the global search if you were Regular you would only be able to search on help and library records. We lifted this restriction, so now please use the global search on the top right, and get the results you think you should get! Finally, for those of you who have asked how to get on my CEO Training webinars, or buy the recordings, I now have a special custom page just for you! First, there is a Buy Now link next to each training course: When you click on that, it takes you to the payment page where you can select all or any of the webinars you want access to: Thats about it for this release more stuff is in the works, as we whittle the list down we continue to get requests. Focus on Branding YOU… Not Your Company - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Branding yourself as an individual, or branding your company, can feel like a daunting task, but it doesnt have to be. There are plenty of great ways you can start growing a brand, even if you arent sure where to start or you havent done it before. Its often easier to brand yourself as opposed to branding a company, so you may want to start with getting people to know who you are. Once they recognize your name, theyll be more likely to pay attention to what you do and that includes creating and/or branding a company. You Need to be an Expert If youre not an expert at anything, its time to get started. When you really know a specific area of your field thoroughly, you have the opportunity to showcase that knowledge. It can bring you customers and clients, and can generate a buzz about you and your industry. Dont just pick whats easy, though. Find a niche thats unique and thats also highly related to your industry. If you dont brand yourself properly, you wont really see any benefit from it. That can have the opposite effect when youre trying to establish a brand and make sure people know your name. As you start to become known as an expert on a particular thing, people will seek you out for interviews, information, and advice. That will help get your knowledge and name into the minds of the people who hear the interviews, making that opportunity a highly valuable one. The more interviews you can get, the farther your reach will likely expand and the more people will be interested in what you know and what you have to say. Over time, youll become known as the go to person for a particular aspect of your industry. You Can be an Official Source for Information Being sought out because of your expertise is a great way to build your brand, but theres more to the big picture than waiting for people to come to you. Instead of being passive about it, a more active approach should be taken. If you want to be a good source for information, you need to know your customers. Find out about them, and learn what they watch and read. What they comment on and have strong opinions about should matter to you. As you read magazines and other documents that have importance to your customers, or as you see programs that they would be interested in, you or your publicist can send out information to the people who created those stories. Let them know that youre interested in making comments on or being used as a source for future stories on that topic. Tell them of your expert status and the information you can provide. While that doesnt guarantee that youll be contacted the next time that topic comes up, it certainly gives you a better chance because the journalist knows your name and what you have to offer. When you do get interviewed, the byline youll get is a chance to promote yourself and/or your company. Dont waste that opportunity, but make sure you answer the question(s) asked of you, and dont just talk about yourself of what your company can do. In being a source, its important you dont try to use the time as an advertisement for your company. Make it Easy for People to Find You Any individual or company that brands itself well is going to be sought after, which is exactly what youre looking for. However, if you cant easily be found, potential clients and customers will quickly give up and move on to someone else. You need a presence, and that should be more than a blurb and a contact link on your companys website. By creating a blog or a website with your own name, people can find you much more easily. Then you can link that site to your online profiles on social media sites like Google+, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. You should show up first in search results for your name, and if you can make your sites and media presence the top several results, thats even better. When people dont have to struggle to locate you online, and when they have easy and efficient ways to contact you, theyre going to be more likely to reach out for what they need. They may want to use you as an expert for an article theyre writing, or they may want to purchase something from your company. No matter what their end goal is, your end goal should always be to make yourself knowledgeable and accessible in your field and industry. The more thoroughly you do that, the higher chances youll have of seeing overall success with your branding campaign.

3 Things You Should Steal From These Career Websites Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, right?  With that in mind, here are three fantastic career websites and elements you can steal* from each. (*By “steal” I mean politely imitate. No one is suggesting you break any laws by stealing a copyright or proprietary technology, so let’s put down the pitchforks and realize we’re suggesting you get inspired. Lawsuit averted? Great. Let’s continue.) Dont  underestimate the value of a career website There was a theory a few years back that social media and talent communities would kill the career website. Clearly, false. The importance of your website cannot be understated. It is the primary destination for job seekers when they want to learn more about your brand, see what jobs are available at your company, your locations, your company values and mission, etc. Yes, they can see fun images through Instagram or jobs on Indeed, but this is the hub of your employment experience and should be a central part of your talent attraction strategy. Knowing that, we should think carefully about our websites and invest heavily in their creation. But what makes a career website great? There are some foundational elements that all sites should include, like strong employment branding, an easy job search widget, and an explanation of why your company (and employees) matter. And, of course, it absolutely needs to be designed for mobile devices. There are other elements, of course, but let’s dive in to the reason you clicked this article to begin with â€" what other people doing that’s so great, and what ideas can you steal. Target Target has one of the best career sites around. Filled with tons of great content, their site no doubt keeps a job seeker engaged and on  the website  longer. What’s great about it: Target has a ton of career opportunities and they make it easy for their job seekers to find their fit with easy-to-navigate categories and info on each Useful video content FAQs for their candidates One thing you should steal: Content generation. They have a ton of content on their site, from employee highlights, to store spotlights to user generated content. They house much of it on their blog, nicknamed Pulse, and also leverage their corporate content where it’s relevant (there’s no need to re-invent the wheel if your marketing or communications team is already producing quality content). I happened to really enjoy this profile of Raleigh, NC with a local store team leader. So, what can you steal from this? Ask yourself what stories you and your employees can share…and then find a way to share them! Amazon Amazon’s career site is as you would expect â€" clean, simple and well-organized. What’s great about it: Mobile-first design Global site with multiple languages and locations info Strong employee highlights Faceted job search that makes it easy for job seekers to find what they’re looking for One thing you should steal: Strong EVP, front and center: The core of Amazon’s value proposition is “We Pioneer.” They’re recruiting daring individuals to invent and keep the company ahead of the pack. Read these two sentences:   “Success is measured against the possible, not the probable. For today’s pioneers, that’s exactly why there’s no place on Earth they’d rather build than Amazon.”   That’s compelling, isn’t it? So what’s the lesson here to steal? Know your value proposition and boldly proclaim it on your site. Hubspot One of the top marketing platform companies should have a great website, right? Well,  Hubspot certainly does. What’s great about it: Clean, easy to read design and text Behind the scenes photos and info that give you a real flavor of their culture Super fast and easy application process (don’t underestimate the value of this) One thing you should steal: Have fun. Career sites don’t have to be so drab and serious. Hubspot has some fun with theirs and took some photos of employees in wacky poses to convey their culture and sense of “heart” that they want employees to bring to work every day. There’s even a guy in a banana suit. I mean, c’mon, a banana suit? If they can do that surely you can find a way to show a little life on your site, right? From the article: 22% of employees surveyed consider their immediate manager so weak, that maybe that person shouldnt be a manager at all. There is a clear connection between good managers, satisfied employees and profits. Happy employees create happy customers and better results for the business. According to our research, happy employees mean a 40% increase in profits. Also one in three rate their manager as technically competent but a bad leader. Would you hire a cast member from MTVs

Would you hire a cast member from MTVs 7 Flares 7 Flares Quick Disclaimer Im an Italian American living on the east-coast, and while I do not find the term Guido offensive, I am offended that cast members on the show down play the word and its meaning.  Older Italian generations may still believe that Guido is is a slur, but many fight back saying it isnt a derogatory word,  its a lifestyle of a sub-culture of Italians.  This post is my opinion on the effect this show might have on the careers of younger cast members, NOT the word and its meaning. Photo Credit - www.sliderguide.com They have big muscles, busty figures, a never ending application of make-up, cases of hair gel, and now MTV is showing what happens when you throw 8 of them into one beach house.  Striking gold yet again,  MTVs latest train wreck is called Jersey Shore, and features 20 somethings living the Guido life style. Most of my family members find the show and its cast-members offensive, but made sure to talk about Jersey Shore    for all three of our extended family dinners weve had over this holiday season.  My family certainly isnt alone in their disgust.  Dominos recently pulled their sponsorship, and the president of the national Italian-American service organization has made sure to voice his anguish with the show. The point is, whether you love or hate Jersey Shore, youre talking about it and the shows orangey-tanned cast.  Cast members have made appearances basically everywhere, including  Jay Leno where he publicly embarrasses 3 of them.  The Guido lifestyle is gaining national recognition, and while the buzz is exactly what MTV wanted, is the possible infamy helping or hurting the careers of the shows cast? Get your Jager Bombs ready, Im in the zone What does being a Guido mean? To fully understand how the cast-members guido-ness hurts or helps their careers, we must first take a quick look into what it means to live that life style.  Wikipedia describes Guidos (guys) as humorously thuggish with an overtly macho attitude.  Wikipedia also says they often wear plain T-shirts, muscle shirts, leather jackets, unbuttoned dress shirts, and throw heavy quantities of gel on their head to get  right amount of spike in their hair, referred to as The Blowout.  Lastly, Guidos are perceived as being extremely muscular.  More muscles, means more attention from Guidettes.  Duh. What about the Guidettes?  I found a nice wikiHow manual on How to Be a Guidette.  The list says that a young lady must be confident, look glamorous, wear the tightest clothing possible, go clubbing often, shop at Juicy or AX Armani, grow hair out long, get weekly manicures and pedicures, and date a Guido as soon as possible to become a true Guidette. What activities do both Guidos and Guidettes enjoy?  Easy.  Clubbing as much as possible, tanning, and working out.  These activities are staples in the Guido lifestyle. Would you hire a cast member? Organizations go online to search out information on people before hiring them.  It happens.  What stops the company from doing some research into the show and making a decision based off of what their character was like on TV?  Its a reality show, so obviously this is supposed to be how they are in real life off camera. Your decision to hire someone cant be off of their look alone, but would your organizations dress code be a problem to them?  Non-stop fist pump party action could prove to cause issues in the workplace, especially in the morning. Look, obviously I had fun with this, but lets be real.  The show is crude, ridiculous, and doesnt help the image of the featured cast members.  They may love the image and attention they are receiving, but what personal brand are they building?  Again, simple.  They use a lot of hair gel, they party hard, and they tan hard.  Oh, and dont forget the muscles. So, if a cast member came in from the show to interview with you, would you hire them? Ill be honest.  I dont know much about the career aspirations of each cast member.  However, I do know that one of them DJs 6 nights a week, and apparently one of them is an exotic male dancer.  These are two of the older cast members, so it looks as if theyve found their ideal Guido careers.  Both involve music, dancing, and looking good.  Perfect. As for the rest of them, I dont know much.  For me to feel confident hiring any of the cast, Id need to know they would be committed to work, and partying during the week would not affect their job.  If they could meet all job related requirements, then yes, I would green light hiring one of them. How about that for an HR answer?
